Touch Screen Technology Take Off in 2008

Touch screens are a popular feature of mobile phones in the market today. Currently available there is the Apple iPhone, the LG Viewty, Samsung F700, and the LG Prada just to name a few, and now Samsung have announced the F840.

The F480 is a 3.5G device with HSDPA capabilities allowing high speed data downloads of up to 7.2Mbps. It boasts a 5 mega pixel camera with auto focus and flash, it features video and image stabilisation with slow motion function and built in video editor, multimedia player, FM radio with RDS, microSD expandable memory, Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0, built in blogging support, email client, web browser and of course touch screen technology!

The F480 measures 96 x 55 x 12mm and weighs in at just 91 grams which considering the amount of functions the F840 packs in is a fairly lightweight and compact handset.

If you are looking for the best touch screen mobile phone the F480 beats the specification of the iPhone by a mile, I would therefore recommend the F480 (if you can wait until its released!) or the LG Viewty.

Unfortunately Samsung have not indicated the F480’s price or when it will be released.

Facts to Consider Before Purchasing an Unlocked Cell Phone

One of the most asked questions we receive at Search4cellphonedeals.com is can I use any unlocked cell phone for my carrier?  The short answer is, no you cannot.  There are several things to consider before you run out and buy an unlocked cell phone.

First let’s look at what an unlocked cell phone is.  Some cell phones are designed to use a Subscriber Identification Module card or SIM card for short.  A SIM card is a microchip that stores subscriber data.  The SIM card is issued by a carrier and provides cell service by activating any phone into which it is inserted.  A locked cell phone, however, will only recognize a SIM card from a particular carrier.  If the cell phone is unlocked, it will recognize a SIM card from any carrier.  The “lock” is a software setting that keeps the cell phone “loyal” to one carrier.  This is done by the major carriers to ensure you don’t get a FREE cell phone under a two-year contract and then not pay on the contract and use that cell phone with another provider.  It is in this way that the cell phone providers can justify giving individuals a FREE cell phone that would have otherwise cost the consumer money.

There are plenty of places that sell unlocked cell phones but simply buying one of these phones does not guarantee that it will work with your carrier.  Before buying an unlocked cell phone, you have to know what network your cellular provider operates on.  There are two here in the United States.  The first is Global Systems for Mobile Communications or GSM for short.  If your cell phone has a SIM card, your provider uses GSM.  Currently carriers on the GSM network include, AT&T Wireless and T-Mobile.  Typically if you buy an unlocked cell phone any SIM card should work equally as well in that phone regardless of the provider.  The other network is called Code Division Multiple Access or CDMA for short.  CDMA phones do not have a SIM card and thus even if you purchase an unlocked CDMA cell phone you still have to get your carrier to activate it for you.  The drawback here is that the provider still decides if you can use a specific cell phone.  Currently carriers using CDMA in the United States include Verizon Wireless, Alltel Wireless and Sprint PCS.

The easiest way to determine if your provider will let you use an unlocked cell phone you have your eye on is to simply call them.  Every provider has an 800 number that can be obtained by simply going to their web site.  This is especially important for anyone who is considering buying an unlocked CDMA cell phone.

Unlocked cell phones have become so in demand that there are now companies out there that will unlock your cell phone for a fee.  The fee varies by company and again may or may not free up your cell phone to be used elsewhere.  There are also numerous hacking sites on the web that will show you how to unlock your phone, but be warned, the carriers will render a cell phone that is determined to be unlocked improperly inoperable.  If you want an unlocked cell phone, the best thing to do is to buy one from a reputable company.

Now that you know the facts, start looking for your dream cell phone.  Remember it is probably best to leave your locked cell phone alone and look elsewhere for an unlocked cell phone that will work best with your GSM (if you have a SIM card) or CDMA cell phone.  Avoid the places that tell you any unlocked phone will work with any carrier and be sure to double-check with your provider before you finalize your purchase.  It’s your money, spend it wisely.

Touch Screen Technology and the Polls

Uncategorized | Friday July 31 2009 10:20 pm | Comments (0) Tags: ,

Many states have gone to using touch screen panel polls in their voting. However, for many, they are simply too unpredictable to trust when it comes to important voting decisions. While touchpad technology may be well utilized in the grocery stores, your favorite retail hang out or at the local library, it seems that it might not have a permanent place in the upcoming election. After the 2000 election we may all recall that there was a recount. At this time, Congress provided a lot of money to replace the old punch card and lever-operated machines. These new machines promised to get rid of human error and any type of tampering. Unfortunately, these machines simply brought new problems of their own. From votes simply vanishing to vulnerability to hackers, breakdowns and malfunctions, these machines were not the savior that the American people cried for after the drama of the election. The unfortunate problems with these machines have now caused dumps to become filled with the leftovers. There are many states hanging onto the machines in the hopes that one day the technology may be called upon again.  Maybe one day, we will be able to make them as reliable and useful as our favorite self-checkout lines. So, this year, instead of the coveted and popular touch screen we are going back in time to paper ballots again. However, paper ballots are not without their own problems, including increased costs associated with printing. A lot of money was spent to hopefully update the election process; it is an unfortunate reality that instead of helping the problem the result was more frustration and lost hope. It seems more and more people are going the mail-in ballot route. This allows them to receive the ballot at home and process at their convenience, rather than making a stop at the local voter booth. With the increased use of touch screen technology it is possible that more people would have to take the time to go to a registered voting area rather than receiving the information in the mail. The inconvenience, for many, might not be worth it. Further, if people feel that their vote isn’t going to count due to faulty technology why would they head to the polls? We all want to feel that we are making a difference, that our opinion counts and that we will be heard. However, if, as many say, these machines are riddled with problems then the American people may start to lose the will to participate. Officials must continue to look for safe, reliable ways to ensure voters that the vote they are casting gets counted. On the other hand, exciting technology may reach voters that may not vote otherwise. Perhaps in the future we can reach a happy medium as they work to perfect the technology.I think it is safe to say that many people that have avoided voting in the past will be casting a vote this election season. Opinions are running high as November 4th approaches and I’m sure many are speculating about what kinds of problems this election season might bring with it. Whether you decide to vote at home and mail in your ballot or drop it off at a nearby location, your vote will matter in this heated election season.
